back to the books and something new

I have so much research to do today. It's so hard to get back in to the swing of things after such a nice, relaxing weekend.

I did get a little inspiration to help me on my way this morning though. I started my new position. I can't really say much about it yet, considering today was just a bit of an introduction to everything, but I do think I'm going to enjoy it.

I'm working as an assistant to the Archivist here at the University. It was by pure chance that I came across the job listing. A couple of weeks ago I was telling Corey that he should check the local Universities for jobs and happened to click over onto the career services site when I saw the listing right there at the top of the page.

I immediately submitted my application. After telling Andy about it, he encouraged me to drop by the archives and introduce myself in person just to try to get a foot in the door. However, I was feeling a bit superstitious and decided to just leave it to fate.

I reasoned that my plate was pretty full already and if this position was meant to be, then it would be. I didn't need to help myself into an even busier life (I had just gotten myself out of that after all.)

I was pretty surprised to receive a phone call from the Archivist the very next day, offering me the position without even asking for an interview. I figured I'd be stupid to turn it down considering it was pretty much placed right there in my lap on a silver platter.

So am I going to quit my other two jobs? If you know me at all, then you know the answer is a resounding negative. Yep, back to a life of three jobs and school full time. But each job offers me their own little benefits that I find are worthwhile so I'll make it work.

I only spent a few hours in the stacks this morning, but I was kind of like a kid in a candy store. I hope this position will open a few doors for me and allow me to get a feel for the type of work I'll be doing in grad school.

But for now, it's back to studying.

OMG so excited for you and the new job! That sounds totally like something you would love and I agree it can help with grad school or future careers so I think it's a great choice. YAY!!! I am always in awe of folks who can work multiple jobs and not go nuts. I work one and couldn't dream of taking on anything more. HA HA HA! Good luck with the job! :)
