home envy

I have completely fallen in love with Bonnie from Going Home to Roost and her Flickr set of her fabulous home makeover!

I've always been a fan of neutrals accented with pops of color.

I love all the quirky things she has added to the decor to give it a touch of personality.
To me, this home is the epitome of friendly, fun, homey, and oh so inviting!

I just had to share with you one of my favorite illustrators before I jet off to Washington DC for the rest of the week!

Her name is Sylvia Portella and she's based in Berlin, Germany. Her career started in graphic design until she discovered her love for illustrating.

I just love the whimsical, sweet characters and scenes she creates. So adorable and so colorful!

Have a lovely day!

I'm going to spend the rest of the day packing and cleaning up the house. I plan to take Ash out for a toss of the frisbee later on so long as this wind will die down a little!

Couldn't resist...

Bought THIS today.

They didn't have any more blue left in my size. I tried on the pink, and it was fabulous!!

Not to mention it was marked down 30% on an already marked down tag! Double bonus!

I waited just long enough to get the deal, but not so long that they were all sold out. I love it when that happens.

Picked this sweet thing up on clearance as well!!

Pockets!!!

I can't wait to take them on our trip to DC this week.

What's the best part of going on vacation?

That I get Andy all to myself, for a whole week, with nothing to distract us!!

smile!

I had a vision of this exact smile print hanging on my wall even before I found it on Etsy.

I'd been searching for what I'd seen in my mind for awhile and was beyond thrilled when I found it on Hijirik's Shop.

It came in the mail this week!! Ooh, I love goodies that come in the mail. I already have the perfect place picked out for it.

Just thought I'd share because I'm so excited about it. I also want to welcome my new reader's. I love reading your emails and comments. Thanks for coming to visit me!

so disappointed!

That my size in this pretty little sun dress is sold out already! Bummer!

Friday Flashback.....to the Twilight Zone

When I was 13 I'd slowly worked my way up the ranks and had earned the right to advance to the highest level at the dance studio I trained at.

I remember thinking how cool it was going to be to finally get to dance with the "big girls," as my sisters and I called them. They were the girls in high school, most of them 16 and 17.

I thought they were kind of scary. I felt shy, naive, and awkward but I didn't care. I worked my behind off. I wanted to be just as good as those girls- no...I wanted to be BETTER than those girls!

I remember watching those girls do a chair dance to Janet Jackson's "Black Cat." Hot. I wanted to be in that dance so bad!

I was moving from the team that my studio called "Rythmettes," to the team called "Rhythmline." Yeah, I thought I was pretty cool.

Anyway, I remember how excited I was on the first day of class when our teacher began to teach us the first few counts of our competitive jazz routine.

We were going to be dancing to "Twilight Zone" by 2 Unlimited. Everyone was psyched. I bet you remember the song:

Radical, right? I still remember some of the steps to the routine. They were uber cool at the time, but today they're beyond comical. Anyone remember the 'Running Man' or the 'Roger Rabbit?' Yeah. That was us. Haha.

Here's a pic of me in one of our costumes.

Photobucket

Go ahead and laugh. I have to laugh at myself when I think back to some of the stuff I wore. I mean this was back in the day when it was okay to wear your leotard over your bike shorts and we all wore bright blue eye shadow and red lipstick for performances. Yikes!

Want to see an even funnier pic?

Photobucket

Can you guess who I am? I'm the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. Yep.

I was in a production routine with a Ghostbusters theme. Four girls on my team danced the part of the Ghostbusters while the rest of the girls were dressed as ghosts.

I danced as a ghost for the first part of the routine and then I was the lucky girl that got to come out for the big finish in the Marshmallow Man costume. Boy was it hot in there!!

Anywho- My family didn't have a video camera until I was in college, so sadly I don't have many videos of me dancing. Maybe someday I'll share some videos of my little sisters dancing. They were much more talented than I was anyway!

So I hope you enjoyed flashing back with me! Maybe we'll do this every Friday. It'd be a fun way to jump start the weekend. What do you think?

who eats a hot pocket with a fork and knife?

I do.

Well, today I do.

Corey had to give me a hard time about it but in my defense, it was too hard to bite into.

Actually, that was my fault. I don't like reading directions. Just ask Andy. In fact, I loathe it, with every fiber of my being.

So I didn't read the directions, had no idea how long to nuke the Hot Pocket in the microwave and decided to just wing it.

That winging it thing didn't work out so well for me because I cooked the Hot Pocket too long and it came out crusty. Hence, the knife and fork.

Yeah, yeah. I know.

Not reading directions gets me in to trouble quite frequently, but I doubt I will ever learn my lesson. Especially now that I have Andy.

He reads the directions from top to bottom. Oh, he's so good at reading and following directions!!

And I'm so bad at it. Funny huh. I love to read. I mean, I love love to read. Just not directions.

I don't take direction very well either. You can confirm that with Andy as well...and my mother for that matter. Oh they both know first hand how I can be.

I don't like anybody telling me how it is.

I tell myself how it is.

I'm stubborn like that.

Anyway, back to the Hot Pocket. If you care to know... it was delicious. Crusty, but delicious.

Dinner will be delicious too. I'm making quesadilla salad with grilled chicken on top. Yum. I can't wait!!

Oh, and I'm not following a recipe either. I have trouble reading those as well. I think I'll just wing it.

If I'm lucky, it will look something like this:

Mapping it out

One of my most favorite thing in the world is maps. I can stare at an atlas for ages and not get bored.

Currently, the only thing map related that I have is a calendar. But if I ever get that dream room, (you know, the office/reading room with floor to ceiling book shelves) I'd love to decorate it with maps.

Kids-Part Two

I got to go shopping for maternity clothes with my sister and mom the other day. Fun! We're in the process of planning her baby shower as well, which is going to be super cute!! I'm excited to be an aunt!

xoxo-Kimberly

ps- I had to laugh awhile back when we got a baby announcement from our friends. The baby was wearing one of those giant flower headbands. Andy looked at it and said "What's that growing out of her head?"

missing my distraction

Andy's out of town on business this week. I'll be glad when he comes home.

But it's probably a good thing that he's gone, considering I need to focus all my time and energy into preparing for finals. If he were here, I'd just want to spend all my time with him. But this week I can't afford to ignore school.

At least we can chat online and send pics via webcam, when I'm taking a break. Makes it seem like he's not so far away after all.

I'm not completely alone though. This is Henry pouting on the other side of the room after I shoo-ed him off my desk. He likes to lay on my books.

Here in my bedroom...

I keep asking Andy if we can get a dual dresser.

Right now he's using a hand me down plywood thing (nasty) and I'm still using my dresser from when I was a kid, which is pretty much falling apart and not really my style.

While looking around for dressers I got inspired to create a few sample rooms.

Mostly I'm just trying to decide on an accent color to go with the brown leather bed frame that we have.

I love the rooms that I created but I'd probably go with something a little less formal in the end.

After I finish studying, I'm heading to the bedroom to watch a movie and wind down for the night.

I'm a traitor

Speaking of Audible yesterday....I have a confession to make. Lately I've been a traitor to books.

*Gasp!!

I know!! I know!! I'll just go hide my head in shame now. I know you're all disapointed in me.

I'm in the process of becoming a librarian and I've traded in my Gold Card Membership to Barnes and Noble for a Platinum Membership at Audible.com.

Now before I get booed off the stage let me just say that this is a temporary gig!! I promise.

I could never give up my precious books permanently. But I have to admit that downloading books to my Ipod from Audible has been extremely convenient.

It all started a couple of semesters ago when I found myself purchasing 14 books for 4 classes.

That's right. 14.

History majors read. A LOT. A LOT. A LOT.

xxxxx

I was working three jobs at the time and panicked a little. Now, I'm a fast reader, but this just wasn't within my reach.

So what did I do? I signed up for Audible, downloaded all the books to my Ipod and listened to them while I was at work. Double duty, oh yeah!

It was completely awesome!! I was hooked and I started downloading other books as well as school books. I could do my homework (listen to my books) while I was working, doing laundry, fixing dinner, and driving.

Perfect. It seriously saved my bacon and I've been doing it ever since!

But I still miss having the actual book and feeling the pages between my fingers, jotting notes in the margins and adding them to the collection on my bookshelf.

When life settles down and I actually have time to read for myself again, then I'll be back. I know Barnes and Noble must be missing one of their ever loyal customers!

A few of the books I've downloaded from Audible so far:

The Mask of the Black Tulip

The Thirteenth Tale

In Cold Blood (had to read this for an english class- didn't much care for it)

Dune

The Hunger Games (Currently have Andy hooked on this one too- I sent the audio file with him on his business trip this week)

The Forgotten Garden

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl Who Played With Fire

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

The Zoo Keeper's Wife

Eye of The Needle

World Without End (Andy and I are reading Pillars of The Earth right now- I've read it before but thought he would like it)

...just to name a few

Okay- back to studying!
