Speaking of Audible yesterday....I have a confession to make. Lately I've been a traitor to books.
*Gasp!!
I know!! I know!! I'll just go hide my head in shame now. I know you're all disapointed in me.
I'm in the process of becoming a librarian and I've traded in my Gold Card Membership to Barnes and Noble for a Platinum Membership at Audible.com.
Now before I get booed off the stage let me just say that this is a temporary gig!! I promise.
I could never give up my precious books permanently. But I have to admit that downloading books to my Ipod from Audible has been extremely convenient.
It all started a couple of semesters ago when I found myself purchasing 14 books for 4 classes.
That's right. 14.
History majors read. A LOT. A LOT. A LOT.
xxxxx
I was working three jobs at the time and panicked a little. Now, I'm a fast reader, but this just wasn't within my reach.
So what did I do? I signed up for Audible, downloaded all the books to my Ipod and listened to them while I was at work. Double duty, oh yeah!
It was completely awesome!! I was hooked and I started downloading other books as well as school books. I could do my homework (listen to my books) while I was working, doing laundry, fixing dinner, and driving.
Perfect. It seriously saved my bacon and I've been doing it ever since!
But I still miss having the actual book and feeling the pages between my fingers, jotting notes in the margins and adding them to the collection on my bookshelf.
When life settles down and I actually have time to read for myself again, then I'll be back. I know Barnes and Noble must be missing one of their ever loyal customers!
A few of the books I've downloaded from Audible so far:
|
The Mask of the Black Tulip
|
The Thirteenth Tale
|
In Cold Blood (had to read this for an english class- didn't much care for it)
Dune
The Hunger Games (Currently have Andy hooked on this one too- I sent the audio file with him on his business trip this week)The Forgotten Garden
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl Who Played With Fire
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
The Zoo Keeper's Wife
Eye of The Needle
World Without End (Andy and I are reading Pillars of The Earth right now- I've read it before but thought he would like it)
...just to name a few
Okay- back to studying!
xoxo-Kimberly

WOW that's really cool. I should suggest this to Joe because he's a history major too and has SUCH the time trying to get all the reading in. I'm totally sharing. You're a genius!!! :)
I wonder if that'd help me "read" more. Hmmm....
I got into audio books when I started knitting because I was way into the multitasking, too. I couldn't keep my membership to audible, but I love the npr podcasts you can get through itunes. Mmm.
I love npr. We don't have cable but there's a station that is just black and it plays npr through it. i never thought of podcasting it. I'll have to look into it.
