What's in my Reader? Let's Share Favorites.

Currently I subscribe to 163 blogs. I try to keep it on the light side, you know, and only subscribe to the blogs that I actually read and comment on. Yes, I do actually read and comment on all 163 of those blogs.

Not every day, mind you, but I do try to visit each blog no less than once per week but typically check in on each of them two to three times per week. So essentially, I'm scrolling through my Google Reader every day.

How do I find the time? I don't know. I just do. When you enjoy something, you find time for it. And I enjoy reading....reading blogs.

How organized do you think my Google Reader is? If you know me at all, then you know it's immaculate. Every blog is safely tucked into a folder based on the type of content on the blog.

Currently I have 9 folders in which to arrange the blogs I read. They are as follows:

Archives: 6 blogs
Librarians: 23 blogs
Fashion: 6 blogs

Finance: 32 blogs
Food: 1 blog (guess I need to beef that one up)
Design: 16 blogs
Checking It Out (blogs that I'm new to): 8 blogs
Personal Blogs: 8 blogs
Wedding Blogs: 22 blogs

Yes, I'm a nerd. I like reading finance blogs. Oh, you thought the librarian blogs made me a nerd? Nah. Just the finance blogs. This list doesn't include the blogs I 'follow' either. Now I don't think that's too many and I'm always on the lookout for other interesting reads.

I thought it was high time I shared a couple of my favorites with you:

Design:
Style Files

Wedding:
Inspired By This

Fashion:
My Daily Style

Personal:
Coffee Jitters

Finance: Girl With The Red Balloon

So there's just a few of my favorite reads. I'd love to hear what your favorite reads are!

What I discovered today...

...in the yard...

Side note: For those of you on Facebook who think my status means I'm pregnant, I'm very sorry to disapoint, but I'm not. I know. I know. I can be such a let down.

Anyway, on to my discoveries that have nothing to do with a discovery that I'm pregnant-cause I'm not. Just had to clarify one more time.

Discoveries: While digging around in one of my flower beds, I found a very large rock. Then I dug some more and realized that the 'rock' was actually part of Ashland's bone. Remember
this nose? I think we can safely put two and two together here.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Just after discovering the bone, I looked over to realize that we had our first gladiola!! I've never had a gladiola before. We bought some bulbs in bulk this year and it came with gladiola's, so I was excited to see them come up.

Photobucket

However, I was not so excited to see that it had been trampled. It now has to be held up with this little holdy uppy doo-hicky thing I got at Lowe's. Poor 'lil guy.

Photobucket

Then I checked on the garden and found peppers!!

Bell Peppers

Banana Peppers

And Anaheim Peppers

I also think that after today's inspection it may be safe to assume that we're about to have tomatoes coming out of our ears.

Photobucket

Photobucket

But we're please as punch to discover that our corn is now twice as tall as our neighbors corn. He he. It's taller than Andy!

Photobucket

Please ignore my sweatiness. I had just had my butt kicked at Body Pump class.

Photobucket

And finally I'm happy to report that my sunflowers are officially out of control. Remember how tall they were three weeks ago?

Photobucket

Even Andy can't reach the top!

Photobucket

This one's got issues- Leaning Tower of Sunflower:

Photobucket

I'm kinda lovin it. One thing I'm not lovin is the extra shovelling up I've had to do this week due to our massive visitor. I will not tell you where or how I discovered his latest drop.

In between

How do you know you're playing your cards right?
I don't like being in the middle of this decision.

Meet Veritek...

Photobucket

We're dog sitting for my sister and brother in law this week. Ash is loving having a friend around to play with.

The neighbor kids (who love to play with Ash) stand on the other side of the fence and call for them... "Ash...and Big Dog!!" It's pretty cute.

See those cheeks? There's plenty of room for mass amounts of slobber to be stored in there.

One of the little boys that lives next door was concerned and had to come tell me that "they have slobber all over their heads." Um yeah, the slobber is out of control but I don't think either of them mind.

They play for hours...

Photobucket

until they're too exhausted to keep going...

Photobucket

Photobucket

So far they haven't gotten into too much mischief. Except for Ash who was caught digging in my flower garden the other day. The evidence was right there on her nose.

Photobucket

I think Ash will be sad when it's time for Veritek to go home.

Music that made my Saturday.....

...awesome....

Even studying can be awesome when you're crunking MGMT. Love it.

It's cool when your radio goes psycho. Because somehow it manages to find its way to Thoroughly Modern Millie. "You would!" (know this) was Andy's reply.

Andy got my new stereo installed in my new car. I had to test it out with a current fav.

Stuck doing dishes and home alone becomes a one girl dance party after downloading Auburn.

Yep, today was awesome.

Take two...I'm Versatile!

So I was hopping between writing my last blog post and reading blogs and found that Nicole over at That's Life had given me an award as well! Two awards in one week. I must be super special.

Nicole gave me the Versatile Award which I think is very fitting because I never stick to just one subject. My posts are a mix of all the random things I love or get curious about. Versatile is right.

This means another 7 random things about me. I'm not sure I'm that random but I'll try.

1. When I was five I slipped down a gravel rock pile. There was a rusty pitch fork at the bottom of the rock pile which my leg ran right into. One of the prongs of the pitch fork was embedded in my leg down by my ankle. It took my dad and two other people to yank me off of it. I had the scar for years but it finally faded away sometime in high school.

2. When I was little I loved Sesame Street. My mom tells me that even though I couldn't tell the time on a clock, somehow I always knew when it was time for Sesame Street. I would bring my blanket to her and ask her to turn on the television for me so I could watch it.

3. I have bad memories associated with the color purple.

4. I can't eat shrimp. It gives me the hee bee gee bees and makes me gag.

5. My sisters and I used to take gymnastics at a really small gym. It was called the Flip Flop Shop. It was so small that the long tumbling track took up the entire length of the room. If we wanted to do more than three back hand springs in a row, we had to open the front door and go out into the middle of the street to get enough of a running start.

6. I still have all of my Barbies and all of their accessories. Clothing for barbies was expensive so we used to sew our own and then my sisters and I would hold Barbie 'fashion shows' to show off what we came up with.

7. I have twin older brothers. Michael and Matthew. Matthew died just after he was born and Michael died at age two. When I was a baby, Michael and I used to share a Ragedy Ann blanket that my mom made us. I still have it today and I will never throw it out.

That was a lot of random thoughts to come up with in one day! Thanks for reading. I'll have to give it some thought on who I want to pass these on to. Then I'll let you know.

Lovely Blog

I had to thank Katie from Ryan and Katie's Awesome Blog for giving me this award yesterday!

Thanks Katie! I love reading your blog. It always makes me smile :)

Now I'm supposed to share 7 things about myself.

1. Andy and I like to watch cooking shows on Saturday morning and then try the recipes later.

2. I have a crease on my forehead between my eyes that I hate. I'm secretly obsessed with using anti wrinkle cream every night to try to get it to go away. I don't think it ever will.

3. I collect children's books.

4. I get most of my inspiration from Heather, my friend from college. I admire her positive attitude, ability to make friends with everyone, and her hard work ethic.

5. I love Starbuck's Classic Coffee Cake.

6. When I first came to college I was a botany major. I wanted to work for the forest service.

7. Someday I want to own a couple of acres with chickens and a peacock. Yes, I said peacock.

What's growing round these parts?

So I realized I haven't gushed much about our garden or flowers this year. That's probably because we have had a little trouble and I let myself get discouraged.

Our problem was that the entire earwig race had decided to take up residence in our yard and munched nearly everything I'd taken the time to plant. The most disheartening were my precious dahlias that had been eaten clean down to the stems.

"All my flowers are deeeeaaadd!! I give up. I'm never planting anything... ever... again!" I had moaned, slumping down on my glider to pout.

"Ah, don't be such a Negative Nancy." Andy said. Then he took me to Home Depot and bought me some insect killer.

I think it's helped because things seem to be reviving themselves. Andy really can fix anything. Now I feel like I have something to show off finally!

Anyway, here's what I've spied so far this summer:

First up, is the garden. This is how it looked in June. See those plants lined up against the fence? Those are my giant sunflower plants.

Here's a blurry picture of how tall my sunflowers were two weeks ago:

And this is how tall they were yesterday. No blooms yet, but they're almost ready!

Photobucket

Our garden is looking pretty good too!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I put together some planters this summer to set on either side of our new glider.

Photobucket

They are the envy of the neighbor ladies :)

Photobucket

The glider still needs a paint job. We'll get to that after we finish the other 2 zillion things on our To Do List.

Photobucket

More flowers from our yard...

These daisies came from Andy's aunt. I can't believe how they completely took over the space!

A lot of these flowers were freebies from Andy's parents yard. I got some of them from one of our neighbors too. Can't beat that! Sorry about the blurry pictures. I'm still learning how to use Andy's fancy camera.
