books of course

I have a collection of some of my favorite children's (toddler) books. I used to have a collection of the books I read and loved in grade school as well. However, over the years, that box has disappeared. I'm very sad about this because those books were very dear to me. So I've begun the process of replacing them. Here are a few that I loved the most:

The Egypt Game by Phyllis Keatley






*This is a story about a group of girls that love everything to do with Ancient Egypt. They form a club and hold Egyptian ceremonies and dress up like Egyptian princesses. I loved this book because I used to think about time travel a lot and wish that I could travel through time and experience all the different phases of history.

From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by EL Konigsburg





*This book was one of my all time favorites. It's about a girl and her brother who hatch an elaborate plan to run away from home and live in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. While they are there, they become fascinated by a statue of an angel that was sold to the museum by Frankweiler. They travel to her home to unravel it's secrets.

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell




*For some reason I was really intrigued with Native American's and read several books to learn about their way of life. I was going through a period of time where I was loving nature, missing my dad (who was an avid outdoorsman,) and wanting to run away from home and 'live off the land.' Pretty sure My Side of The Mountain had quite a bit to do with that fantasy as well.

Number The Stars by Lois Lowry

*The story is set in Denmart during WWII and is about two young friends, one of whom has to go into hiding from the Nazi's. It was my first real understanding of human injustice as well as human compassion and I've never forgotten it.

Naya Nuki- Shoshone Girl Who Ran by Kenneth Thomasma


*I first discovered this book in 2nd grade and I rechecked it out from the library so many times that the librarian finally asked me to leave it alone for a month so the other kids could have a chance to check it out! It's about an indian girl who is captured by a rival tribe and forced to work as a slave. She escapes and runs on an exciting 1000 mile journey back to her people. I can't even count how many times I've read this book.

Most all the books I read had the same reoccurring themes: history, travel, nature, or some type of mystery. However, I also had the entire Baby Sitter's Club set that I read from cover to cover.

As well as the complete RL Stine series. Remember those? I couldn't get enough! "The Hitchhiker" was my favorite, lol.

Now I just have to decide which book to re-add to my collection first!
